Join a special edition of the Department of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) hour-long virtual Q&A session with Assistant Executive Director Jason Killeen on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. For the first half of this virtual webinar, Jason will briefly present on how to create a Legal Business Entity Record and Business Tax Registration Certificates (BTRC) to apply for and/or renew Temporary Approvals. For the second half, we’ll continue our usual format of answering pre-submitted questions. 

Why is this brief presentation important?

DCR has created a new Legal Business Entity Record within the DCR Licensing Portal (Accela). Before submitting a Temporary Approval Application, business entities are required to create a Legal Business Entity Record. A Legal Business Entity Record stores the information related to the applicant entity. BTRC numbers are a requirement for creating Legal Business Entity Records.

How does this change help?

 A Legal Business Entity Record stores information and records related to the applicant entity in one place. This means certain records will no longer need to be submitted multiple times for each application or activity belonging to the same entity. In order to create a Legal Business Entity Record, the applicant entity must have a BTRC account from the Office of Finance if it does not have one already. Under DCR’s old process, many applicants did not have a BTRC account before applying to DCR, which caused delays where a new BTRC account needed to be created in order for the Office of Finance to process a payment. To reduce wait times, DCR and the Office of Finance have developed a new system in which an applicant business entity will already be recognized by the Office of Finance with an established BTRC account before submitting an application to DCR.
